Most of the time, these questions are asked after a short design challenge that candidates are asked to complete. This challenge gives candidates the chance to demonstrate their process, design and technical skillset, and ability to communicate their ideas. (I have thoughts on these design challenges, too, but this is a separate topic).

I would argue that these questions give people the opportunity to share their skills within context, while also demonstrating their capabilities in communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and storytelling. How people choose to respond to the questions tells a lot about what part of their work excites them, and what they believe is most meaningful.
